Introducing James Club Recovery Foundation Board Member, Kathy Hurt

Kathy Hurt

Kathy Hurt has had a diverse and impactful career spanning over 45 years, beginning while she was in school at Broward College. She initially worked within the Broward County Court Administration System, earning certifications as a State Compliance Counselor and Case Evaluator. Her early career included working in the juvenile system and with the Broward Sheriff’s Office, where she played a significant role in developing several successful juvenile assistance programs.

After moving to Illinois to complete her certification as a Certified Addictions Professional, Kathy changed career course and began working as an on-air spokesperson for an NBC affiliate, as well as a spokesmodel and voiceover artist.

Upon returning to South Florida, she worked at the Sun Sentinel, earning numerous accolades, including awards for creativity and recognition for excellence in development. After retiring from the Sun Sentinel, Kathy relocated to Vero Beach and began working as a news anchor and community radio show host.

A personal tragedy—the death of her sister from alcoholism—motivated her to help others affected by addiction. Kathy joined the Hanley Family Foundation as Director of Development for the Treasure Coast, where she developed and hosted regional summits on the drug epidemic and contributed to significant fundraising and community outreach efforts.

She now serves as Vice President of Community Impact for Scandia Wellness Systems in Palm Beach, focusing on government relations, community partnerships, and education. Her work continues to bring hope and education to those affected by addiction in her community.
